Catch me if you Cannes

June 3rd, 2010 by Stephen Durrant

Going to the Festival de Cannes is a truly great and inspiring experience, no matter what you do or whereabouts you are in the film industry. I was lucky enough to go this year, from May 12th – 17th, with a screenwriting friend of mine. My main purpose of going was to try to make some connections and to catch some new films... (more)

The Day Of

June 7th, 2010 by Erin Lanza

It seemed like just yesterday I walked into the empty black box of ESU to audition of the film "Never Too Late".  As I walked in to the room, I didn't realize that the people that were "sizing me up", so to speak, for the audition, would be the people I would spend much of my summer with... (more)

Stephen Durrant is an English composer that became involved in Hollow Tree Films during the post-production phase of "The Road Home". Stephen has been a composer for over two years, scoring a number of films. An accomplished musician, Stephen does not only compose music, but writes acoustically and hopes to release a CD in the coming year. Stephen is dedicated to making his work the best it can be.

As of recently, Stephen is the lead composer on Hollow Tree Films' new feature length film, "Never Too Late."

Q. So you live in London. How'd you get involved?

A. Brandon stumbled upon my tracks on Myspace and recommended me to Mike - this was while "The Road Home" was still being wrapped up. Mike got in touch and I was immediately struck by the passion and dedication of the cast and crew towards the project. Previously, I'd been working on shorts, so was eager to score a feature-length film. At first, Iw as worried the distance would cause problems but we all kept in touch through web chats and e-mail, so it turned out fine. It was really great experience and I learnt alot. Now I'm just looking forward to working on the new film!

Q. You play alot of instruments?

A. I suppose so. Guitar, violin, viola, bass, piano, and I sing. But the piano's my main thing. I love trying out new and bizzare instruments. my latest acquisitions have been a Greek bouzouki and banjo. I don't know how to play either so they're just hanging around in my studio gathering dust. Alas... one day!

Q. Describe your influences.

A. I have quite an eclectic (though some might say bizzare) musicial taste, ranging from Brahms to The Smashing Pumpkins. But I can't deny I'm a big fan of soundtracks- John Williams, James Newton Howard and Ennio Morricone have been great teachers to me.
