Catch me if you Cannes

June 3rd, 2010 by Stephen Durrant

Going to the Festival de Cannes is a truly great and inspiring experience, no matter what you do or whereabouts you are in the film industry. I was lucky enough to go this year, from May 12th – 17th, with a screenwriting friend of mine. My main purpose of going was to try to make some connections and to catch some new films... (more)

The Day Of

June 7th, 2010 by Erin Lanza

It seemed like just yesterday I walked into the empty black box of ESU to audition of the film "Never Too Late".  As I walked in to the room, I didn't realize that the people that were "sizing me up", so to speak, for the audition, would be the people I would spend much of my summer with... (more)

Erin is staring in Hollow Tree Films new feature length film as Anna. She was born in Queens, New York in 1989.  From a very early age, she started acting and participating in performance activities (choir).  When she was 10 years old, her parents moved her family to Pennsylvania (near Philly).  It was these beginning years that she did not participate in theater, and looking back, she greatly regrets it.  When she started ninth grade, Erin auditioned for her first musical, but didn’t get in.  However, one of the chorus girls dropped out, and she was the replacement!  From then on, Erin has been greatly involved in the theater activities in her school and community.

When she graduated High School, she had every intention of becoming a theater major in college.  But fear got the best of her, so shedecided to became a History major (which she also loves).  However, during Dr. Margaret Ball’s acting class sophomore year, she decided that she couldn’t give up acting.  Junior year, Erin was the assistant director to Stephanie French, for the experimental play, Polaroid Stories.  Currently, she is in As You Like it, as Celia, and she am more in love with the Theater than she thinks she ever was.

Now, when getting ready for the film, Erin is even more excied as it will bring a new experience to put under her belt.  In the future, she plan on going to graduate school for acting because it is something she absolutely loves and am passionate about.

Q: So you’re Anna. Why do you think her and Amelia don’t get along?

A. I think Anna and Amelia do not get along for a number of reasons.  Competition and jealousy are just two that I can think of off the top of my head.  They are both trying to compete for the love and attention of the man they both love:  Ethan.  However, Ethan cannot choose just one, because both women are equally important in his life.  So not only are they competing, but there is conflict between Ethan and the two women as well.  Another reason why I believe that Amelia doesn’t like Anna is because she is jealous.  Anna seems to have it all:  the nice house and the perfect boyfriend, just to name a few.  However, there are some conflicts within that as well, because the audience finds out that the house is the catalyst for the breaking down of Anna, Ethan, and Will’s relationship, and the “perfect” boyfriend doesn’t know if he wants to marry Anna yet.  Amelia and Anna are two different personalities as well, which does not help their already apparent conflicts.

Q: Ever been in front of the camera before?

A. I have been in front of a camera (professionally) only one other time.  I was about 17 and my friends and I shot and independent film together.  We were extras and we also served as stand-ins for the Director.  It was a fun experience, and we really go to see how things worked.

Q: What do you expect from the experience?

A. I hope to gain experience from this film! I think it is so wonderful to be apart of something like a film, and it is exciting to think about actually starting.  I want to know more about film and how film and stage differ, and I also would like to learn more about directing for film as opposed to directing for stage.
